Rep. Barbara Lee (D-CA), Chairwoman of the Congressional Black Caucus
Washington D.C. – Rep. Barbara Lee (D-CA), Chairwoman of the Congressional Black Caucus said “The Capitol is the embodiment of our democracy, from which the ideals of freedom and liberty are projected. But the history of the magnificent building is largely unknown to those who work and visit here everyday.
“It is fitting that the history of the Capitol’s construction be accurately told to include recognition of the African-American slaves who struggled to erect this massive building brick by brick, stone by stone.
“By properly recognizing the contributions of those slaves who built the Capitol, we bring all Americans closer to an understanding of the continuing evolution of our democracy.”
Now, can we paint it black and come visit whenever we want?

Urban League Conference Photo Opp
The National Urban League will host its 2009 annual conference in Chicago at the McCormick Place Convention Center July 29 – Aug. 1. With the theme of “The Path to Power” and busines, political and community leaders from around the country taking part in power-packed workshops and plenary sessions to provide participants with tools and resources for success, there are many reason for people to attend. I plan on being there.

“In his rush to swipe at me, Congressman Danny Davis made a misstep of his own and hit Judge Evans instead. Over one year ago, in an effort to make Cook County government more open, transparent and efficient, I placed the Cook County Juvenile Temporary Detention Center under the auspices of the Chief Judge’s Office,” said Cook County President Todd Stroger.

U.S. Congressman Danny K. Davis
Yesterday, U. S. Congressman Danny K. Davis told reporters that he wants to leave Washington and come home to bring a “level of stability” to Cook County government. Davis says that in “all likelihood” he’ll run for the Cook County board president job now held by Todd Stroger.
Now, I am not on the “we hate Todd Stroger band wagon,” but his public opinion isn’t high right now, thus the real question really isn’t whether or not Davis can beat the current president. Shoot, comedian and WGCI radio personality Tony Sculfield could probably beat Stroger. The question is, can Davis beat Chicago Alderman Toni Preckwinkle and Cook County Circuit Court Clerk Dorothy Brown, both whom are expressing interest in the job.
